Editorial Policy AskBefore

Last updated: 3 February 2026

This page explains how we create, verify, and update content — so it's clear where information comes from and where the boundaries of responsibility lie.

Our Goal

We make conversations about STIs and sharing test results between partners easier and safer: without shame, pressure, or stigma — with respect for privacy and how people actually feel in such conversations.

What Our Content Is About

We create content that helps remove stigma around discussing STIs and makes sharing this sensitive information easier and safer. We write carefully and to the point: about communication, consent and boundaries, as well as privacy and safe sharing of sensitive information. In some materials, we mention AskBefore as a tool for more secure sharing of such data, taking into account European data protection requirements.

For: adults (18+) who want to care for themselves and their partner and have respectful, meaningful conversations.

What We DON'T Do

  • We do not diagnose or prescribe treatment.
  • We do not replace doctors/clinics or interpret your test results as medical advice.
  • We do not publish personal stories or data without explicit consent.
  • We do not push decisions through fear, guilt, or shaming.

How We Verify Facts and Sources

We rely on:

  • official recommendations and materials from health authorities and specialized institutions, for example:
    • World Health Organization,
    • European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control,
    • Robert Koch Institute;
  • scientific publications and systematic reviews (peer-reviewed);
  • materials from clinics and laboratories — only where they align with clinical guidelines and do not contradict them.

How We Actually Verify

  • we try to provide links to primary sources and indicate where a fact is a "general recommendation" and where there are nuances;
  • if there is uncertainty on a topic or differences across countries/guidelines — we honestly note this;
  • we check the relevance of links and key statements every 3 months (and ad hoc — if important guideline updates are released).

How We Update Content

  • On pages with medical context, we include a line "Updated: (date)".
  • If information becomes outdated or guidelines change, we:
    • update the text and links;
    • add a note about what changed, if necessary;
    • may temporarily remove content from publication if it is potentially misleading.

Translations and Use of AI

We use artificial intelligence to translate content, after which the text is always reviewed by a human — a native speaker.

Our goal in translations: preserve meaning, accuracy of terms, and tone (careful and non-dramatizing), as well as note differences across countries and healthcare systems, if they are important.

How We Talk About Sensitive Topics

Sexual health is a sensitive area. Therefore, we:

  • use neutral, respectful language without stigma;
  • avoid "scare tactics," moral judgments, and accusatory tone;
  • focus on care, consent, boundaries, and clear communication.

Separation of Content and Product

Our website is both an informational resource and a place where we talk about the AskBefore product. We create content to explain context, reduce stigma around discussing STIs, and show how AskBefore helps share such information more easily and safely. If an article has a button or call to try the product, we make it clear and without pressure — so it's easy to distinguish from reference information.

Privacy and Security

We do not publish or ask you to send us your test results "for evaluation" or "for confirmation".

How we process data in the product and on the platform is described in detail in our Privacy Policy.

How to Report an Error

Found an inaccuracy, broken link, or wording that sounds unsafe/stigmatizing? Write to us: hello@askbefore.eu.

We will review the message and update the content if necessary.
